Since their release this fall, I've been on the hunt for the ever allusive L'Oreal La Laque and Le Matte Lipsticks ($7.99 each depending on location). The (rumored) limited edition line features shiny and matte finishes which are meant to be lipsticks and liners in one which provide full coverage in one swipe. After searching high and low, I stumbled upon a nearly empty display at my local Target. I snagged the two remaining shades - La Laque in Lacquer-ized and Le Matte in No Matte-r What.
They come in slim retractable tubes which are similar to lip liners. The tip of the lipstick comes to a rounded point which allows for precise application. After continued use, the tip will most likely become rounded, so apply these strategically.
Lacquer-ized is an ultra shiny, glossy blue based purple with a hint of pink. The pigmentation is excellent - it's completely opaque in one swipe. The formula is soft, creamy and quite thick, so thick in fact that you can feel the product on your lips. This may be a deal breaker for those of you who prefer a no muss, no fuss lipstick. When I wore Lacquer-ized, I found myself checking the mirror often for fear that the product would migrate to my teeth. Lacquer-ized lasted on my lips for about 3 hours. Unfortunately, due to the glossy finish, Lacquer-ized does transfer so watch out if you plan on wearing this shade to dinner!
No Matte-r What is a warm mid-toned brown with a matte finish. Unlike Lacquer-ized, No Matte-r What took several swipes to achieve full color coverage. Not only did it apply unevenly, but the Le Matte formula felt dry and uncomfortable on my lips. The texture is soft and mousse-like, it doesn't feel like a typical matte lipstick - the formulation reminded me of Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation. No Matte-r What lasted four hours on my lips and didn't transfer.
Overall, I have mixed feelings about these lipsticks. I was beyond excited to try these after reading so many positive reviews but I don't feel as though they live up to hype. On a positive note, the La Laque formula is intensely pigmented and I do enjoy a glossy finish but the thickness of the product can't be ignored - it's just so heavy! As for the Le Matte formula, I'm not a fan at all. I love matte finishes but this product was so drying and uncomfortable that I don't think I'll be reaching for No Matte-r What very often...if ever.
Let me know if you've tried these and what you thought about them!
