Since the beginning of Beauty-Twist one year ago, I've received numerous requests to do a makeup organization and storage post. I've been putting it off for a while since I was never 100% satisfied with my setup. However, I just recently moved my makeup collection into our guest room and I could not be more happy with the new space. I utilized our existing desk as well as an unused mirror and purchased two lamps to ensure proper lighting. Most of the acrylic cases are from The Container Store and Target. (Please do keep in mind that the point of this post is simply to offer organization and storage tips, it is not to show off my makeup collection). Read on for more!
I purchased my desk from World Market. It comes in 2 colors, white and black, and can be bought in store or at WorldMarket.com. I love the drawer because it provides extra storage for products that don't fit on top.
On the right side I keep most of my "everyday" products in an acrylic organizer I found at TJ Maxx. This organizer houses my MAC neutrals palette and Urban Decay Naked palette, MAC blush palette, my favorite bronzer (Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess), Dior Amber Diamond Highlighter, foundations, brow products, eye primers, Bobbi Brown eyeshadows, a few Tarina Tarantino eyeshadow palettes, eyelash curlers, and mascaras that I'm currently using. I find that large organizers such as this one are great for products that are used most often because they're all in one easy to reach for spot. See the close-up photo below!
In the small 3-drawer cube to the left of my everyday organizer, I keep my cream shadows/bases (MAC Paint Pots and Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream), a few Urban Decay Eyeshadows, and Q-tips. I bought this storage cube in the bath section at Target.
I store my MAC lipsticks and Revlon Lip Butters in this 24-slot organizer from The Container Store.
I like to divide my makeup brushes into 3 categories: foundation, powder, and eye brushes. The silver vases are from Target and the clear vase is the back is from Michael's. You can find the beads at almost any craft store or you can use coffee beans or marbles instead!
This large 3-drawer organizer is from The Container Store. In the top drawer I keep my MAC Mega Metals eyeshadows from the MAC Peacocky collection since they're much larger. I also have a couple of Too Faced eyeshadows, a MAC pigment, and a couple other limited edition MAC eyeshadows.
In the second drawer I keep all of my powders from theBalm: Sexy Mama Translucent Powder, Hot Mama! Blush, Bahama Mama Bronzer, Frat Boy Blush, Down Boy Blush, and Cabana Boy Blush.
The third drawer houses my favorite eyeliners: Tarana Tarantino Eye Dream Hyperliners, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, and MAC Pearl Glide Eyeliner in Lord it Up.
Lastly, in the desk drawer, I keep more eyeshadow palettes, cream shadows, gel liners, lipgloss, and a few random products. The acrylic organizer on the left and the long skinny organizers on the right are both from The Container Store.
I've found that in addition to The Container Store, you can also find great organizers and storage items at office supply stores and Target. All of the organization items I've shown are under $25.00. You don't need to spend tons of money on your makeup storage - be creative and use things like pencil holders or cups to store your brushes and eyeliners. You can also use earring boxes or other small random boxes to store pots of eyeshadow.
I hope this post gave you some ideas about how to organize your makeup collection!

Thanks! I was just trying to find a way to organize my makeup yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI think what I really need to do is throw things away, because I don't get enough use out of them :(

It's so tough to get rid of things that don't get used as often! I always end up passing things onto my mom! Good luck with your makeup organization, Joy! -xx
DeleteThis looks great!
